PostSubject: Installing a ROOF on Canada Day....Give Me a Break!!!!!!   Installing a ROOF on Canada Day....Give Me a Break!!!!!! Icon_minitimeTue Jul 01, 2008 8:01 am

7:30 am on Canada Day. A beautiful summer morning and what's better than starting the day in your backyard than having a coffee listening to the birds in early morning.
Well I guess it would be shovels scraping, power tools, hammering and 6 guys waking up the neighborhood on their way to installing a new roof!!!! ...within a stone's throw of where I sit. Rolling Eyes No wonder we have to legislate common sense and have a law for the most ordinary situations. It's basically because of stupid and ignorant people like this. So, instead of a quiet, relaxing Canada Day it's hammering, banging and guys shouting to each other from the rooftops. Mad
What a bunch of stupid jerks!!! Mad

I hear you! It's like the lawnmowers at 7:30 on a Sunday morning. I wonder if the roofers are making double time today Wink

Good suggestion normally,Leslie... but plans are in the works for a "quiet" family time and BBQ in the backyard and some can't go to a parade type activity due to health and age. Smile

My hubby had yesterday off! His employees voted to work today instead, thus giving them a three day weekend with Monday off. I guess Canada Day isn't as important to them. So today I am going to powerwash the driveway and maybe seal it too. Oops, I'd better wait until ten am so I don't waken any of my neighbours! LOL

Happy 141st birthday Canada!

Jonas...it's 9:44 and counting down to 10 am!
Actually, I'm going to clean the house first and then powerwash the driveway, so I may not begin until 1:00pm. Certainly if I see any of the neighbours with company, I will not disturb them. There's always something to do around the house!!!

My place of employment as well gave us yesterday off but I requested today off as well to enjoy the parade with my girls as to have yesterday off seemed pointless when you have kids. What better then go to a parade with the family? I can guess work isn't an option in my eyes.

i'll assume that this is a roofing company doing this work because you didn't specify...

if so, why would you be mad at workers trying to earn a living and not your nieghbour for picking this day for the work to be done??

the homeowner does have the say when the work gets completed.

as for the time of day, i've roofed houses before and i'd sayt that they were being considerate to start at 7:30 cause by noon today it's going to be schorching on that roof.

if i had to work on monday and then have tues off then work wednesday i'd be pissed off that a "long weekend" got ruined!

My beef isn't with the workers...but with the owner of the house...ie neighbour. Is there anything wrong with having an expectation that in a residential area on a holiday you might want to spend time at home in relative peace and quiet. This is a repair /reno/construction project....and not an emergency type situation. As far as the roofer/company earning a living...I'm sure he's got enough jobs lined up that he could be working in a less densely populated area today....like Dogsnest, or Houghton etc.

Jonas..Jonas...Jonas...that' s probably my husband up there! He doesn't take holidays, remember? A holiday gives you more time to....DO MORE WORK!

Relax...turn up the classical music and lower your heartrate. Life is beautiful!
Listen to the William Tell Overture and it will cover up the sound of the hammers!

(Now, I myself would be more upset with the smell of someone sealing their driveway! And the smell of your barbecue! HAHAHAHA! I'd have to put on my gasmask while I lounged in my backyard!)

Another Blond Roofer Joke?

One day, three roofers were on a roof, taking a break and eating their
lunches. The Mexican man got tacos, the Italian man got pasta, and
the Blond-haired guy got a bologna and cheese sandwich.

The Mexican guy said, "If I get tacos again tomorrow, I will jump off this roof!"
The Italian guy said, "If I get pasta again tomorrow, I will jump off this roof!"
The Blond-haired guy said,
"If I get a bologna & cheese sandwich tomorrow, I will jump off this roof!"

----- The Next Day ----
All three guys looked in their lunch pails. Sure enough! The Mexican had
tacos, the Italian got pasta and the Blond got bologna and cheese!
Sooooo...they all jumped off the roof and they all died.

---- At Their Funeral ----
The Mexican's wife cried,
"If I only knew he did not want tacos... He should have told me!"

The Italian's wife cried, "If he did not want pasta, he should have told me!"

The Blond's wife said crying,
"Don't look at me... He made his own lunch!!"

It has been a most productive day for me! No distractions at all. I cleaned the house, moved the fridge and stove for cleaning, edged the front lawn and gardens, power washed the driveway, put on one coat of sealer and had cocktails with my neighbours. (One neighbour serves the BEST Cable Cars!!!)
Maybe we should call it a Canadian Cable Car in honour of today!

From the Bellagio in Vegas:

1/2 oz Orange Curacao liqueur ( I used another brand)
1 oz Captain MorganŽ Original spiced rum
1/2 oz lime juice
1/2 oz sweet and sour mix

Rim your glass with cinnamon and sugar. Lovely to sip on a summer day. Not a sweet drink at all. It took me one drink to become accustomed to the flavour and as they say....what happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas!!! LOL

Why wait until your house gets damaged by rain. People dont put a new roof on because it doesnt leak, the sooner the better. Move to the woods if people bother you.

Nothing to do with liking or not liking people. When you live in a community urban setting you curb certain activities in deference to your neighbors. That's why we have certain noise bylaws and such....like the one I posted above which restricts this type of activity on holidays.
Now I think I'll go light up my chimnea....after I let out my 3 cats to roam.....before I start work on that car of mine...it needs a new body job...so I need to get out my boom box first...I can't work without that ...the sound of the grinder bothers me otherwise....BUT I just wish I could get off the porch...,.these sofas we got at the dump are sooo comfy . lol!
