words...words....words

In this age of rapid telecommunications, words, images and information are being transmitted 24 hours a day on cellphones, TV, radio, CD's, DVD's, MP3's, messageboards, music videos, text messaging, talk radio, newspapers, magazines, books, satellites, the internet in vast volumes and at super-velocity. Words...words...words. Billions and trillions of words in a multitude of languages and on a myriad of topics every second. It boggles my mind!

But there are a few simple, fragile words from a different time and culture taken from crumbling pages, thousands of years past...that are recognized by millions without hesitation. The longevity of these words are puzzling to me...yet fuel my faith.
It is amazing to me that 2000 (or more) years later, when people hear some of the following phrases, they still know EXACTLY the source and the speakers and the storyline. THAT in itself is a true miracle!

"Let there be light."
"Love your neighbour as yourself."
"Come to me all those who labour/are weary... and I will give you rest."
"Be not afraid."
"This is my beloved Son."
"Love is patient; love is kind."
"Forgive them for they know not what they do."
"The Lord is my shepherd; there is nothing I shall want."
"Blessed are the peacemakers."
And so many, many more.

Explain to me the "sticking power" of these words!

Thank you cking. The beauty of these "words" have lasted over 2000 years and have the same strength and power as they did when they were first printed. These words and many more just like them have brought me through many struggles and hurdles the last 12 years. I needed that reminder cking. Again, thank you.
