Removing older program versions updates

I have been trying to clean up some programs and updates and was wondering if one could remove older updates for the same program. For example, I have 4 versions of "J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0" updates 6, 9, 10 and 11. Would it hurt to remove all but the latest update?

Hi Nestor ... You can safely unininstall all versions (except the highest number), through the Add/Remove program in the control panel. In fact it is a good idea!

Thanks Howard. Another question, what about all the files starting with KB* from the "Security Update for Windows XP"? It seems that I have hundreds of these programs that are listed in the Add/Remove utility.

I handle those differently. I delete those from the Windows directory, and keep some of the latest ones to make sure they do NOT need to be uninstalled if one of the security updates causes a problem. I keep about 3 months worth and delete the rest. Yes, there are many, many of them cluttering up your computer and very seldom used. I also have a Registry Cleaner program to pick out any of the registry entries left over from deleting those files.
