| I have been trying to clean up some programs and updates and was wondering if one could remove older updates for the same program. For example, I have 4 versions of "J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0" updates 6, 9, 10 and 11. Would it hurt to remove all but the latest update?

| Thanks Howard. Another question, what about all the files starting with KB* from the "Security Update for Windows XP"? It seems that I have hundreds of these programs that are listed in the Add/Remove utility.

I handle those differently. I delete those from the Windows directory, and keep some of the latest ones to make sure they do NOT need to be uninstalled if one of the security updates causes a problem. I keep about 3 months worth and delete the rest. Yes, there are many, many of them cluttering up your computer and very seldom used. I also have a Registry Cleaner program to pick out any of the registry entries left over from deleting those files.Howard | |
