We here in Port Dover are in dire need of more policing. The vandalism is completely out of hand especially in the downtown core area but it can be found almost anywhere in town. Port Dover is so busy this time of year and with the tourists and then the added residents who have moved here in recent years that the one and sometimes if we are lucky two officers simply can't be everywhere. Anything left on a yard whether it be a garden ornament or flag gets stolen or destroyed, almost nightly the garbage cans on main street are overturned and then rolled onto the street, sign poles are bent over or broken off, screaming, loud music , hooting and hollering is common place at 3 am. That doesn't even address the drinking and drug problems that are evident in this town, you can drive the main street at any time late at night and early morning and you will find trouble makers on the street, drugged, drunk..most underage with no parent in sight. I think that if a young adult gets caught vandalizing they should be made to clean up their mess on a busy summer day with everyone watching, then the parents should be given a warning the first time then fined everytime thereafter. If the kid simply won't listen ,the parent has the right to notifly the police and if the kid is picked up they spend the night in a cell. I am sure most kids would need just one night in a cold cell to decide they better be home instead of roaming the streets in the middle of the night.

Does Norfolk County need a cerfew?
I guess it depends what the age of the troublemakers are to be really efective.

I just read in the newspaper that the police will begin to enforce the curfew. I guess they have never really enforced it in Port Dover but due to the vandalism and crimes going on they are going to do it. I think they should have enforced since day one and maybe some of these problems could have been avoided. I do believe that it is a very small percentage of teenagers and 20 ish young adults that do the damage. The young adults I have met are polite and hard working, responsible yet they are labelled because of a select few who act like idiots.
