| I love golfin, i really cant get enough of it but in the middle of summer I am finding all courses around here jammed packed and waiting 20 minutes to take a shot on every hole. I also find this problem generally revolving around seniors who think they own the course, they dont let you go by them even if they are hitting 30 shots per hole and your hitting 3-4 shots. When im playing and I see someone behind me is better than me and putting pressure on me I let them through and try to enjoy the day but for some odd reason certain people just wont allow it to happen, they even turn there heads back at ya stare ya down and continue to hit another 5 yard shot off the tee box lol. Today for example I had to take my car in for a new winshield and had 2 hrs to wait so i headed to a golf course in mount elgin with a friend while it was being fixed and on about the 6th hole we had two 60-70 year old women who could barely walk come acros the course from gods knows where and hopped on hole seven. When we caught them on the next hole I asked if they minded if we went first and she asked me if I had any manners, like she wanted to smack me up side the head lol.
Its really ticks me off, is it just me or do older people feel they are entitled to more and because your younger you must bow down? Or in this case is it the golf courses fault for not setting up tee times 15-20 minutes apart instead of lining everyone up one after the other? I figure its a bit a both but my godddd have some respect for people and let better players through for god sakes! I just dont understand the joy in playing a relaxing game having a better player behind you blasting balls up your butt all day.

| OK I am LMAO thinking about you golfing with 2 elderly ladies and balls up your butt! LOL
Seriously tho I would have let you pass by, I would think it was common courtesy to do so if I were slow

| Maybe they don't think they are slow! Or they aren't even aware of you!
Same as at the grocery checkout. I can be standing with one loaf of bread at a grocery store without an express lane...and some people will say..."Go ahead of me"...and others simply start unloading their $200 basket of groceries without even a blink or a glance in my direction.
Entitlement. Some people feel entitled to ignore the practical needs of others.

| Letting faster players play through is simple golf etiquette. Unfortunately that is seldom used on the public courses around here...also it would help if local courses had a marshall like I've seen at some who drives around and prompts slower players to let others play through I find the best time to play unimpeded is really early in the morn. | |

| I'm constantly amazed at the number of golfers who don't know when to let other groups "play through".
I have had faster (or better?) players behind me, hitting there shots while we are barely leaving the greens, etc. But there is no advantage to letting other players go through, if I am also waiting on the tee for a group in front of me....
On a busy course, the general rule is too let groups play through if you have an empty hole in front of you. As long as your group is keeping up with the players in front of you, than the players behind will just have to be patient.
The other scenerio that bugs my butt, is the guy who brings all his friends early Sunday morning... yep he's playing alone, and on a riding cart. And that person expects that every group in front of him/her will let him play through? Not. If you're going to play a round of golf all by your lonesome, then be prepared to be patient and play at the pace of the course. A better idea would be to ask to play with another twosome or threesome. Make some new friends and enjoy your round at a slower pace.
My 2 cents. | |

| It's really a problem for any decent course and since few people take the time to learn the "other" rules of golf. The guys that taught me made sure I new exactly how to act on a course and it still sticks today.
It's become a lot like society, loosy goosey, bad manners, jeans and t shirts and no class. Just not like it used to be but at least the ball and hole are still round.

| I'm an avid golfer too and I've had similar experiences with groups holding up the pace of play. I can't say it's a specific group, but when it happens to me I just take an EXRTA long time teeing off and hope to have a long enough lag that I won't be tempted to drive the ball of their heads. :-)
With regards to Mount Elgin, I can completely sympathize. That is one of the most poorly run courses around, and with it being semi-private you end up encountering a number of long-time members who play at whatever pace they want. I respect the fact that members support the courses in the way they do, but once your course becomes public you're going to have to make some concessions (or deal with elevated membership fees).
In my experience, the best place to golf 9 holes is Norfolk Golf & CC. It's semi-private, but I've never had to wait for a tee time, any of the members I've chatted with were very welcoming, and I have never had a build-up of players. It is a little pricey ($22 for 9-holes) but you can't beat their fairways and the green's are in pretty decent shape. Finding a good 18 hole course is a little tougher though. Otter Creek is fantastic! Brand new and very easy to get a tee time. However, it's quite difficult (6100 from the whites, 6700 from the blues, 7200 from the golds) so if you're not a confident golfer you may not have much fun. My one complaint is that the course is too expansive so a cart is a must. It comes out to be $70/golfer for 18 and half a cart, but you know where your money went once you start playing (no. 9's the hardest hole you'll find in the area!).
It's tough to find a decent public course to play at, especially in Norfolk/Oxford county since you do end up with a lot of seasonal golfers just out having a few beers or enjoying a nice stroll. For serious golfers it can be cumbersome and I find that it disrupts my rhythmn on the course. I guess you get what you pay for... haha

Im not out there tryin to become a pro but I like to be good at what I do and want to improve not just get sh1t faced and hit some balls in the bush. Im a member in Delhi, I won a membership online for 400 bucks which was cool. Other than that I play Otterville, Lyn Valley, Pine valley, turkey point, tburg country club, tburg fairview, mount elgin once a year, and ill play courses I get deals for on the net like Willow Valley in Hamilton which is sweet. I want to play battle creek in the falls before the years over cause I keep getting deals for them to. I play the Tarandowah Golf Club out by Avon once and a while to and its a tough course but nice for being relatively new.

I want to play battle creek in the falls before the years over cause I keep getting deals for them to. I play the Tarandowah Golf Club out by Avon once and a while to and its a tough course but nice for being relatively new. I've noticed that it's far cheaper to play after 5pm at Otter Creek. It's great to play 9, but if someone was looking for 18 at that time, it might not be enough time to squeeze it in before the sun goes down. I've yet to play Tarandowah. I've heard that the course is very long and with the thick fescue, if you miss the fairway or 1st-cut you're a bogey. It seems like a good course to test your wood accuracy. Tamarack, north of Tarandowah, is a pretty decent 18-hole championship course. The fairways are a little cramped in spots, but they are wide enough that you dont' have to worry about getting hit with someone's slice. I've only played Delhi once this year. I used to play there all the time when I was a teenager, but the course has become a little "rough around the edges". Actually, I've noticed that this year the fairways and greens weren't as dry thanks to the damp summer, which was nice. I don't mind my drives bouncing and rolling an extra 50 yards, but when I can't stick a wedge on the green it's a little discouraging. The Greens at Renton is a good place to play. The only downside to playing there (in my experience on the weekends) is that they have a lot of tournaments, and even with 27 holes, if you're not there early/late you risk having to play a 4.5 hour round.
