| There is a couple franchise opportunities out there I was looking at in the winter, not even sure if still available but I thought they may be able to fly around here.
Now be honest
1. Would you use a UPS store if you had one in town over canadapost?
2. Golfers, would shop at a nevada bobs golf store over driving to the surrounding cities to buy and trade and test new golf clubs?

| 1) Rarely send parcels so a UPS store would make no difference to me.
2) Don't golf so again no difference to me. You might not do bad for customers but a lot of people still feel they need to go to the city to get the most variety and best prices.

| I would go to a UPS first. No way anyone there could have a chip on their shoulder as big as the ones they wear at the Post Office. I don't golf, but I know Nevada Bob's has a good reputation. | |

| I would use both UPS and the golf store. Great idea. I hate going to the post office. | |

| I think a UPS store would be great. But be sure the parking is convenient. Or even a drive-through! Wouldn't THAT be great? Not too much walking with those big packages. People want quick, efficient SERVICE! No waiting and no walking. I usually see those stores in strip malls in Hamilton. You drive right up in front. In and out. | |

| Skully - get a hold of me. I know a lot about these courier companies...We do about $600,000 - $800,000 a year with UPS, Fed-Ex, Purolator...
UPS is really getting aggressive, corporate wise. They are trying to steal some market share and are doing a good job...UPS is sort of a specialist in international shipping - if you need something from the US, they are the best to use. They will clear it at customs (this saves DAYS) and do all the necessary paperwork. It works out to pennies considering the time and resources it would take a lay person to figure this out... Fed-Ex is OK - VERY pricey, no service.
Purolator is the middle of the road. Good rates, OK service but high incidents of damaged shipments. Again, I would say UPS is the best in this dept.
DHL (Loomis) - Stay away. Horrible company from top to bottom. I made certain that any of my shipments (coming or going) that pertain to my customers, cannot be shipped via DHL. Enough said...horrible, expensive experiences with them - I never miss a chance to tell this to the world, lol.
All in all, I think this would be a good opportunity for you. UPS is globally recognized and have a good reputation, plus the increase in cross-border shipping can only be a plus. Take your time, study the figures. I know you will anyway....

| I think UPS would be great - we use it all the time for importing packages from the US.
We use Fedex for document shipping and get excellent service. However, UPS is the only way to go for packages and this area is in dire need of their services. and cking is right - make sure there is plenty of good parking available. The plaza where M&M is located is an excellent site (I believe it's called the Chambers Plaza??)

| Right now, Norfolk Office Supply is a depot for UPS or maybe Purolator?? Which one? Anyway, the problem there is with the parking! Where do you park to take your package in? There is never any parking there across from Leon's. Or, in fact, in front of Leon's due to all those no parking spots at their loading doors! | |

| I have often picked up Purolator packages from Norfolk Office Supply - you can drive up to their door at the rear of the store. However, it is very narrow, hard to navigate back there.
I don't know about UPS having a depot there, tho . . .

| UPS would be kind of cool but you might want to do a bit of research on The UPS Store and franchise owners.
They have launched a class action suit against UPS itself that is working it's way through the legal system now.
I considered adding it to my business but I found the startup costs to be simply not worth it. Perhaps in a large urban area, you might make enough to justify the costs but I just can't see it in Norfolk County.

| UPS sucks BAD for international shipping, always charge another 25% service fee at the door no matter if there is customs charges or not.... I don't understand them...no one else does that..only UPS.... I do a lot of shipping with my own business and I avoid UPS if I can...just my 2 cents. | |

| I would use a UPS store but probably would not use Nevada Bobs . My golf is so bad testing clubs and balls won't make a difference . I agree with sixstrings , never use DHL (loomis ) , they are the absolute worst excuse for a courier company . If your package is not lost ,it will be damaged and as far as attitude goes they take the cake right from management to drivers . I specified to the companys I deal with not to ship DHL .They just don't give a rats ...... | |

| Its not just UPS, I used to and still do from time to time get golf clubs from the states to sell here in canada and I used to and sometimes still do get nailed no matter what i use.
The trick is to lower the value of your package, you buy something worth 300 bucks, tell the guy who ships it to put a value of 50 bucks on it and also mark "gift" on the description. Customs will rarely stop packages like this and if they do you will only pay taxes on the value amount.

| Skully knowingly changing the value of an item to beat the tax or duty is dishonest the way I see it. Its the same as selling a car and giving a different reciept for GST purposes. Sure everyone does it but I won't . Just the way I look at things I guess. | |

| UPS charges EXTRA fees on top of what any other shipper charges... I'm addicted to ebay, I know what I'm talking about with shipping charges.
If you really want to start a money generating business...open up a go-kart track around simcoe-port dover... You'd make a KILLLLLING in the summer time.
