| I'm in the market for a cordless trimmer/edger for the lawn. Any suggestions as to which manufacturer / model is better than another? I saw the one on television, WorkX I think, that sounds pretty cool. Price about $100.00. (But naturally, I'd prefer to shop local for a number of reasons.) Thanks everyone! | |

| I bought a B&D CST800-CA 12VDC cordless (build in battery) with autofeed, also has a wall hanger/charger. works well for an average sized yard. My only complaint with it was the "string" that comes with it is kind of thin, so I drilled out the output hole (on the feed drum) slightly so it would accept heavier "string" and now it works very nicely. Paid $49.99+ government donations... Zellers appears to carry the same unit for the same price

Black & Decker also have a heavier unit, an 18VDC same features as the other one (although this one is $119.00) but with a bonus that the battery is detachable and is the same 18V battery that B&D power tools use (drill, recip saw, circ saw, etc.)

| The one you mention sounds a little too gimmicky to me. https://www.totaltrimmer.com/vcc/globalideas/totaltrimmer/347865/ The suggestions by guyinbrantford are good. The extra battery is a great idea, so you don't have to stop in the middle of a job. I have an echo gas trimmer, so that would not be suitable for you. I like to trim early Sunday morning to wake up the neighbours...you are obviously more considerate. - SZQ wrote:

| Jonas: Yes! Wake them up and then make people like me choke on the gas fumes! HAHAHAHA! You are a considerate guy! Cordless is the way to go if you have sensitive neighbours!
(I know! I know! Shut my windows and put on my gas mask and learn to be tolerant!) And I am.

| Yeah i am happy with the B&D that I mentioned, just if you buy that one I suggest drilling out the string hole in the drum (where the string is held) with about a 1/8 drill bit then you can use the heavier string (I think I'm using .9something mm chord) | |

| Here it is, two weeks since I last posted about the weed trimmer. My neighbour purchased the B&B 12 volt cordless, so I tried it out. Loved it! This past weekend we finally got around to buying one, only to find out six stores later the 12 volt model was all sold out. So we chose the 18 volt model. Have to say.......I've done my yard and two neighbours this morning!!! Love these toys! LOL | |

| LOL ya they are very nice cordless units eh? I'm not sure what size string the 18V model uses, but if you find you go through string quickly, just simply drill out the existing string pathways to about 1/8 and buy the heavier string. I did this to my 12volter as the stuff it came with was running down to fast when trimming against things like concrete and the laneway.
Also a tip, usually B&D provides kind of a wimpy charger, but you can get yourself one of these http://www.homedepot.ca/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/CatalogSearchResultView?D=933545&Ntt=933545&catalogId=&langId=-15&storeId=10051&Dx=mode+matchallpartial&Ntx=mode+matchall&recN=113336&N=0&Ntk=P_PartNumber
it will charge all B&D slide batteries in about 90min (there may be faster ones out there but charging too fast isn't good for the batteries longevity)

| I'll keep the drilling part in mind if per chance it is necessary. I've done along the curbs, the driveway and the flagstone patio and not a problem so far. Thanks for your suggestion! | |
