We REALLY enjoyed the Doverwood Carnival today to raise funds for their new accessible playground equipment.

Seems they had sponsors who rented three huge, inflatable slides and jumping castles...Scotiabank, etc. The Pirates of the Caribbean inflatable was awesome!
It was $15 per family to get in. Evergreen Hill Farm had the heavy Belgian horses giving wagon rides around a track of several blocks. Pulled by Willy and Leroy.

There was face painting and duck pond, fish pond, a craft and a dunk tank. There were slushies and popcorn, candy apples and a chip and pizza wagon.

It rained twice...but didn't dampen the spirits! It was well-organized and enjoyable. We stayed for THREE hours! The kids went down those bouncy Moonwalk slides about 15 times! And will sleep well tonight.

I hope they made excellent profits because it appears a lot of volunteers did a lot of planning and a lot of work for this event. I am glad that the rain did not spoil it!

I thought playground equipment was all ripped out because of liability issues Question

older playground equipment doesn't meet safety standards (although I wonder why that playground in Waterford is still there?..the one on the main st.)

there is equipment that do meet the safety standards..such as equipment found at the Kinsmen park etc.

I find it really interesting that in a couple of years equipment that costs 10's of thousands of $$$ can become so unsafe. When I think back to some of the equipment we had at school its a wonder any of us are alive!!! Just kiddin'. We even made snow balls at school!!!! Built forts and had wars! and we didn't have one teacher or yard duty person out there at anytime!!!! The really interesting thing is there where a lot more of us too. Don't know if we where more careful or knew we'd be in trouble if our parents had to be called because we got hurt?

The carnival was a big success. The PTA is, about $3000 shy of the total cost of the playground, and another $4500 for a "maintenance" fund, that is apparently manidtory as per the board. It was a fantastic day, and it seemed as if all in attendance had fun.
