| I will probably get in trouble for this but I have noticed that you save no money by buying produce directly from the farmer anymore. It is the same price as in the stores. It never used to be that way. | |

| Some times you pay more as the stores take a loss to get business | |

| For me its not about saving a bit of money. I like to buy local ,support the farmers and they spend the money locally. A prime example is Eising Grenhouses in Renton. I could buy cheaper at Crappy tire or Walmart but ask the salesperson a question and they have no clue, Its Eisings business to know . Quality and freshness is far superior if you buy from the grower | |

| Well, I noticed at Canadian Superstore...$2.99 for a plastic box of imports. And $4 for a box at the market for local..and $2.75 at two roadside stands I stopped at. I really like the ones from the little stand across from the Harmony. They don't have very many...but they have a very clean patch. Big and juicy. The guy who sells cabbage and cauliflower in the fall.
It's uncanny the resemblance between Howdy Doody and Mad Magazine's Alfred E. Newman, isn't it? Never noticed before! That's that goofy 50's "boy with a new haircut" look! Everybody's brother used to look like that! Before braces and barbers!

| No, no...no ill intent! It was a cute and wide-eyed naive kind of look! Like Beaver on Leave it to Beaver...and the Little Rascals. Freckles, ears sticking out, big teeth. It was just the 50's kind of look. Nobody really looks like that anymore?? | |

| There is a woman who sells home-grown garlic at one of the indoor stalls at the Thursday market in Simcoe. It's available usually about mid July - but watch out, she sells out early. However, she also sells it dried in bottles. We like to buy that as well because it is coarsely ground and the pieces are in various sizes.
And I agree with you - I too will not buy the Chinese stuff. I've been using a dried garlic purchased at Imaginations, across the street from Powell Park in Port Dover. I forget who makes it but it's all natural and grown in Hensall Ontario.

| Call the information centre and ask who grows garlic locally. Or if someone one the board know please tell, I'm sure that there is more than one grower in the area. | |

| You have to be careful when buying local...I was at a local fruit stand and they had tomatoes for sale and they were a product of USA...everyone says buy local but how can you when you go to a market and items are marked "product of USA" To me local means from your backyard not from the grocery store shelf! As for prices you may say money on strawberries right now but that is it! | |

| If the produce is local its vine/tree ripened. Not sprayed with "something" to get ripe in the cooler at the store. Its probably been picked that morning too. You might not save a few cents but you'll probably get better taste. Also some growers are starting to grow some of the older types of vegetables not sure if any locals are but sometime in the quest for perfect "fruit" you lose the taste/flavour. | |
