I mentioned a huge fan in another post...but here's the info on that...
"China is using 3M's Filtrete Commercial filters at Beijing National Stadium, also known as the Bird's Nest. The stadium will host the track-and-field events at this year's Olympics, along with the opening and closing ceremonies.3M says the filters will reduce dangerous fine particles by 60 to 80 percent for the thousands of fans."
"There is also talk of using a process known as cloud-seeding to force rain in the days before the Olympics, which will help clear the air."
They have also moved the most polluting factories out of the main city and others will be closed down for the Olympic period.
They are also paving parking lots with an absorbent paving material that soaks up the pollution from vehicle exhausts. Trouble is, there are, even now, 1000 more cars PER DAY in Beijing itself!
They are also cutting back by 1/3 the (I think) 3.5 million cars that will be allowed on the streets of Beijing during the Olympics!
They have planted a huge belt of trees around the inner city to prevent the sandstorms that coat the city in a layer of dust on a regular basis... in addition to the pollution! Sounds like a huge mess to me!
