I was thinking the other day why cosmetic surgery is called PLASTIC surgery?? And here's the answer!
"Plastic surgery is a medical specialty interested in the correction of form and function. The word "plastic" derives from the Greek word "plastikos" meaning to mold or to shape,"....and has nothing to do with the polymer known as "plastic." Interesting!

No, not plastic...but certainly silicone and other man-made materials for shaping, re-building bone structures and bulking up.
I was simply wondering why they CALLED it "plastic" surgery in the first place. Now we know.
And I was interested in the root word for our common word "plastic" anyway and thought perhaps a few others might be interested as well.
