The DriveIn is 75 years old....!!!

Hard to believe the drivein theate experience started 75 years ago. I wasn't around , but do remember nearly every town had one. One in Simcoe, and one outside of Courtland towards Tillsonburg, as I recall.
On a hot summer evening wouldn't that be a great experience.

There are still some driveins here and there. I believe there is one in the Welland/ St. Catherines area. Does anyone know of any others? Has anyone actually been to a drivein lately?

I remember very well going to Simcoe's drive-in. I remember my parent's packing my brother and I up in the car and heading there. We wore our pajamas and took pillows along with us. It was very cozy. We went there a few times and the one show I remember seeing was Bedknobs And Broomsticks. What year did it close?

I've also been to the one that was in the Courtland/Tillsonburg area and the one that's still there by Niagara Falls. Nice memories!

This was a topic of discussion one day at Curves and I think people mentioned there are still two..one in Stoney Creek and the other near London. The Mustang, I think.

However, there are no longer the speakers on the posts...you tune your radio to a certain setting and the audio comes in through your radio. The one actually has a BAR in the concession stand!! And you can have a drink and watch the movie through the big window! Imagine that! Still very popular.

I used to frequent the starlite drive-in back when I lived in Stoney Creek....only had one screen then though, but it was great because it wasn't very busy.....when the did the makeover and added the 2 extra screens it was always packed....
