| In today's reformer there is a story on parking infractions in the downtown core. The woman (Sandy) was ticketed for her bumper over the white line. Come on! I can't tell you how many times I have tried to park my vehicle (yes I drive a truck) and some car decided to keep their bumper (either front or rear) over the line. This in turn makes me over my line. Its a domino effect. The thing is .. its not just street parking, its mall parking too. People need to be more observant when they are parking! I hope Sandy wins her case (she is going to court)!
Oh ... by the way as a side note ... I just want to thank the a$$hole who decided to hit my truck with their door. Here's a tip ... HOLD ON TO YOUR FRIGGIN DOOR WHEN YOU ARE GETTING IN OR OUT OF YOUR VEHICLES!!!!!

| I agree about the domino effect. I stop quite often at the Whitehouse on the way home from work. I've parked between the lines, on the lines and very close to the lines all due to the others parked around me. Also why is it if you take care not to park to close to another car/truck so you won't hit their car/thuck when you get out, why is your car/truck covered in dings? (I do know the answer ) | |

Downtown Simcoe is not unique in that department. It happens all over the place...malls, towns, cities, tourist areas, all over!

So, are we talking about downtown Simcoe or downtown Washington? Sorry, couldn't resist.

| Wombat, that was really funny! I refer to my house as "the White House" on my answering machine and everyone just loves it. We all know that she was referring to the Whitehorse Plaza but a little humour goes a long way these days! | |

| What irks me about the downtown parking is that all the downtown merchants and their employees are supposed to park in the munipal lots close to the rear of the liquor store parking lot and at the lot just over the bridge.
I routinely every morning see close to 60 spots just sitting empty because employees of the downtown core are taking up the prime parking spots closer to the downtown.
Something needs to be done about it but even the BIA admit it is going to be months before they address the issue.

| The BIA shouldn't have to address the issue. The owners and employees should know better. Don't they realize that them taking up valuable parking is hurting them in the long run? | |

I thought it was an awesome spelling mistake. Imagine walking thru the Whitehouse with a shopping card, walking past Mr Bush and asking him where the frozen food section is. LOL

| Why does everyone want to park in front of the store they are going in. You can't do that in the malls. On a busy day you park further away from a store in the mall then if you parked in the downtown parking lot and walked to the downtown store. Less stress on your treadmill also, where you walk and get nowhere. | |

| Maybe if everyone was given a ticket for improper parking we wouldn''t have these problems. I hope she loses! | |

| This whole thing is stupid to the core (downtown that is). Here everyone is complaining about Queensway taking away business and here the by-law is ticketing willy nilly! There isn't very much as it is in this area and when we have something like Friendship Festival or Xmas Lightup they will very likely be upset any visitors that may (& do) come to our town. Nothing says welcome than a ticket for something trivial.
Only in Simcoe!! | |

| Downtown Burlington had been experiencing slow or no growth for many years. One of the incentives was the enticement of Free Parking, almost anywhere! But now that the downtown area is 'revitalized' the free parking is gone and it's pay, pay, pay. I think it's about a dollar an hour but I could be wrong. (Guilty...I don't shop downtown very often! Or, if I do, most of the shops that I visit have Customer Parking) | |

| I hate going downtown because I can rarely find a parking spot so, I drive in circles until I do then, I go to the place I want to go and there is a sign on the window that says " back in 15 minutes". 15 minutes from when? I also hate to hold up traffic while I try to parallel park ( I need a couple tries sometimes) It's also stressful getting the kids out of the car without getting hit by a car and in the winter you have to climb the snow hills and step in slush etc. | |

| well if you thought about it maybe its a good time for you business people to buy an area downtown and turn it into parking lot which requires a pay per park like in the city, no parking violations and its in a secure place where nmothing can be stolen and has a worker running the lot keeping an eye on everything | |

| OK...this lady who parked over the line. You take a chance when you park incorrectly. The chance is that you will get a ticket. No matter if it's the fault of the guy ahead of you who was too far back or too far ahead...and now he's gone. You are still out of place. So perhaps next time, it's better to find another parking spot.
Think of it this way...what if in the winter, there was a snow bank so you parked up a bit on the sidewalk to avoid the pile of snow? Same thing. The reality is, you are illegally parked where you shouldn't be. Upsetting no doubt. But we have to have rules and laws.

| Cking ... with your theory, if you take a parking spot but the knob you want to park infront of is over his line that automatically puts you over your line and you're at fault? Then perhaps the county should look at making that parking spots bigger ... to accommodate larger vehicles .. not all of us drive little puddle jumpers. Why should this lady be fined because of the moron she parked infront of and because of her larger vehicle?
I think the whole thing stinks of pettiness and I do hope that Sandy wins her case. I myself would be more than willing to take pictures of people forced to park over the line because of another vehicle. Better yet .. of other infractions that get the blind eye because of greased palms.

| Yes, it seems very petty. I agree. I have never heard of that parking issue in the past. And have never known anyone to receive a ticket for such an infraction. | |

| Wait a minute! If you decided to take pictures, how would you conclude WHO started the domino effect just by looking? How would you know which car was FIRST parked over the line? Just by looking...? If 3 cars are over the line in a row, WHO was the first one to be "over the line?" Or even if two cars had pulled away, the one left may not have been the one who started the problem. It would be impossible to tell. | |
