In the process of winterizing my garage a few years ago, I also used an epoxy primer and then a reddish coat of epoxy paint. You can get various colors...that was just my personal preference. The brand was Behr, as I recall. The main thing is to clean and power wash the floor. I don't think I used anything harsh like miuretic acid. Just soap, a power washer and lots of elbow grease. The primer is a white, sticky watery consistency...quite tacky to the touch.
I applied both primer and the epoxy as per instructions...and they are pretty explicit. I got my stuff at Home Depot as the local building outlets didn't have what I wanted. So far the garage looks good after 4 years. The only defects are the pit marks and blemishes from the original concrete floor...they still show thro' in places.
I toyed with the idea of just ordinary concrete paint but went for the epoxy thinking it would hold up better...and it has.
That's my own experience with painting garage floors. Hope it helps.
BTW, I did this during a hot humid week and it was pretty brutal. There is a strong smell with the primer too. So plan your work accordingly.....not the hottest day of the summer.
I think I wore a proper mask/filter for the job as called for , as well.
