I remember a lightning strike at the farm. I was was watching TV at lunch time. We think the TV antenna was hit,and then the bolt travelled along the electrical wires to the barn. I remember getting a shock from it. My grandmother was downstairs with the harvest gang, she was leaning on our freezer and got a bad shock-affected her for years. I remember my dad commenting on how warm the basement floor got. So outside-our dog was hit and died, we had a rented horse that was hit too. It didn't die, but was never able to work afterwards. The cover for our Bell Telephone box flew about 50 feet. I vaguely remember a second hit to the antenna as well.
Another time, I was parking cars at the Waterford Blue Grass Festival and a storm came in. We were walking out the driveway to Thompson Road and lightning struck right beside me-I could feel the heat, the electric charge made my hair move, and it damaged my hearing on my left side.

We (and several neighbors) lost our computers and other appliances last August due to a lighting storm. I believe it traveled through the phone line. It shattered our modem. I was lost without my computer addiction until we could get ourselves another one.

In another storm, we lost our television and a few other smaller appliances. Now, I'm afraid of storms more than ever since I know what damage they can do. I feel sorry for people who have lost their homes due to lightning strikes and people whom have died from being struck. Lighting is a very treacherous thing.
