A carbon tax is just a "shell game." It doesn't actually accomplish anything except cost you and me money. This system will have little or no effect on those who can afford it while being devastating to those who can't afford to pay more. The rich don't care and the poor will get hosed as usual.

An industry that is a heavy polluter will shop around until it finds enough credits to neutralize its over production of pollution. It won't diminish the pollution but it will be justified by the credit purchase.

If you want to be serious about it, set limits that cannot be exceeded under any circumstances or you are out of business.

To not have the majority of countries involved in cutting pollution while unilaterally cleaning up your own act is just about the same as committing economic suicide and in the end accomplishes nothing as pollution knows no boundaries.

Put everyone under the same rules and regulations regarding pollution but help out the developing countries by subsidizing their efforts to manufacture in a less polluting manner. Simply giving them "credits" will not in any way get them to develope in a "green" fashion. In fact, it will encourage the opposite.

It is more cost effective to start out "green" than it is to later become "green."

Under the leadership of Gordon Campbell, B.C. has adopted the Carbon Tax. What do they know that we don't?

Remember that Gordon Campbell was elected as a Liberal - but he is "Liberal" in name alone (much like Jean Charest in Quebec). Prior to his initial victory as premier of B.C., Campbell looked, for advice, to such notables as Premiers Ralph Klein and Mike Harris.

There are only 3 reasons that the Conservative Government has done the little that they did yesterday.

1) Finlay was really really starting to look stupid with a direct pipeline to the PM's office yet no clout except to get her a cushy Ministers Job, Pay and until she gets booted, a pension.

2) Because Liberal MP Lloyd St. Amand force the issue with his motion http://www.ontarioflue-cured.com/uploads/General/St.AmandRelease2008June10.pdf which basically embarassed the government into doing something.

3) 1.15 Billion conveniently negotiated from Canadian Tobacco Companies at this time of which only 1/3 was offered to farmers.

PS Let's not forget that this is an offer, not a done deal and we'll wait for the details to see if it passes the smell test.

Why should Hoskins like the new deal, it still keeps 2/3 of the fine money in the government coffers which the Conservatives are spending like thieves promoting their programs on taxpayers dollars.
