I can't get my laptop to open at the full screen setting when I start up. Tried a number of options and still no results. Any ideas? Thanks.

Go into its BIOS settings (hit <DEL> or <F1> or whatever it asks for upon startup and look for an option that has your primary display sizing (might have something like 'stretch')

What make/model is it anyways?

Dell™ Latitude™ D600 ....as far as BIOS settings ...not a clue.
Tried the following procedures...but didn't work..

Opening Internet Explorer Full Size

Ever notice sometimes you right-click on a link and open a new window and it's not full screen? This usually occurs because IE remembers the last window size when closed. Many times a background pop-up will do this too, if it is the last window closed. To resize the window and regain control:

Close all instances of Internet Explorer except for one.
Right-click on a link in the page and select: "Open in New Window"
Close the first browser window using the [ X ] (upper right corner)
Resize the window manually by dragging the sides to the desired size.
Note: Do NOT click the Maximize button, you must do it manually.
Hold down the Ctrl key and click the Close button (upper right)
[Exception]
In some cases the "Remember last window size" info becomes corrupted in the Registry.

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main]
"Window_Placement"=

To reset the "Window_Placement" entry to default. You can download a small reg file to reset (to default) and correct this behavior.

Download: ResetWindowPlacement.reg [right-click and select: "Save Target As"]
To use: right-click and select: Merge - Ok the prompt and reboot.

was it just IE that was giving you the sixing problems? or was the whole desktop missized?

I believe Dell usues <F2> upon startup to get into the BIOS
and from what I see your native resolution should be at least 1024x768 [XGA] so if it is lower or of the wrong ratio to your screen it will look missized
Also check what Windows is using for sizing (right click on the desktop and select "Properties" then click the "Settings" tab and you will see the "Screen Resolution" slider near the bottom left, make sure it's set to 1024x768 as well

Also tried this to no avail...
Right click on the Internet explorer and/or the Outlook express icons in the quick launch bar (next to the start button) and then on properties. You will see the "run" line to the left side of the box. Click the little arrow on the right and change to "Maximized". Be sure to "apply" and OK and it should open full size.

Screen resolution is right....

Jonas can you be more clear on what exactly your problem is?

I have a d600 as well....

You say the laptop doesn't open fullscreen, then you say IE won't open fullscreen when you open it....

What's the problem exactly??

It appears that when I double click on short cuts from my desktop...ie KWIC (my home page ) or Norfolk Talks, the page doesn't open in maximized form. BUT, when I use the icons on the bottom task bar for IE or E-mail the pages DO open in the maximized version. That wasn't something I picked up on before. I usually use the shortcuts on the desktop.....which have NOT been opening in maximized form...pheww....does that compute? Laughing

Ahhh ok you are saying that various explorer windows aren't opening maximized by default (but your desktop screen it filling the whole display) I don't use either Outlook or IE so I'm not sure how this would be rectified.

Well, like it's been said I.E. remembers the last non-maximized browser window size for the next time it opens.....so if you have one I.E. window open, move it to the top left of the screen, click and drag the bottom right corner of the window so it fills the whole screen, and then close I.E.

Now try opening it again, it won't be "maximized", but it will take up your whole screen....

It's a workaround anyway, that might do just what you need....

I'll see if I can find some setting to make the shortcut open a fullscreen window.....there may be an option in the actual I.E program....

If I understand your problem correctly the following should fix it.

Start internet explorer from your shortcut.... Maximize it using the square in the top right hand corner then press the spacebar once.

Close it then try the shortcut again.

This should work for most windows applications including outlook express.

Hope this helps.
